If, for example, this place were just a vast and empty wilderness, not inhabited ever, what would we make here? There were neither convenience stores to buy ice creams, nor trains to visit friends. We could not reach anyone because there were no cell phones. It would get as warm as more than 35 degrees Celsius during the day, and as cool as less than 20 degrees at night. We had no shady areas to prevent direct sunlight, nor roofs to shelter ourselves from wind and rain.
Kept in such a condition, we might try to make walls using stones scattered over the ground. In what order, then, should we pile up those variable-sized stones to prevent collapse? As for gaps between the stones, we would probably put soil in there. We would dig up the ground to get appropriate soil with enough water. If this would not work, we might do some kind of dance and prayer to bring rain, or read stars in the night sky or observe the movement of clouds to predict weather. However, in any case, we should first of all knead the soil in our hands to see its viscosity.
