In his work, Yutaka Nozawa uses photography and film to sample elements of nature slipping into urban life, such as a wind swinging a curtain or birds passing by seen through window when one happens to turn their gaze, creating a loop of time without beginning or ending. Presenting a concord between intentionally created situations and coincidence, Nozawa's methodology combines two sites: flat surfaces as a vehicle of documentation and the space of sculptural installation that situates them, together establishing a modest scene that begins to connect to the viewer's memory.

Entitled "li," his first solo exhibition at KAYOKOYUKI begins with a film that captures with a fixed camera a lightening rod and a raven that fliesover and lands on it. Seemingly totally still, the raven blurs the borderline between film and photography. Likewise, the whole installation presents negotiations between stillness and movement, highlighted by everyday scenes captured by the artist on his different trips. Reactivating fragments of his documentation of different times and places, each as a result of a long process, Nozawa creates a minimal space that confuses the course of time.
